Opening a Georgian Bank Account as a Foreigner

What banks ask for and why applications get declined.

Georgian banking is workable for foreign entrepreneurs, but approval is never automatic and never guaranteed. Preparation is what separates a smooth application from a declined one.

The decision is always the bank's

No adviser can promise you a Georgian bank account. Banks apply their own compliance policies, and those policies change. What can be improved is the quality of your application: who you are, what your business does, where the money comes from and whether the story is documented and consistent.

What banks want to understand

Compliance teams are answering a small number of questions:

  • Identity and address — passport and supporting documentation.
  • Activity — what the business actually does, for whom, and in which countries.
  • Source of funds and expected flows — amounts, frequency, counterparties.
  • Georgian connection — registration, tax status, lease or presence in country.

Why applications get declined

The usual reasons are a vague or inconsistent description of the business, activity in a sector the bank treats as high risk, crypto-related flows, counterparties in sanctioned or high-risk jurisdictions, no demonstrable connection to Georgia, or documentation that does not match what was said in the interview.

Being declined at one bank also makes the next application harder, which is why we prepare properly before anyone walks into a branch.

How we support the process

We help you prepare the documentation and the business narrative, sequence banking after registration and tax status so the Georgian connection is evidenced, brief you on what will be asked, and support you through the appointment. We do not, and cannot, guarantee the outcome.

Frequently asked

Can you guarantee I will get an account?

No. Approval is entirely at the bank's discretion. We improve the quality of the application, not the bank's policy.

Do I need to be in Georgia in person?

Banks generally expect to meet applicants, and in-person attendance is the normal route for a business account.
